Thanaroopi
Thanaroopi is the sixth raga in the Melakarta system of Carnatic music. Meaning ‘the one that embodies thanam’, this raga is known as Tanukeerti in Muthuswami Dikshitar school of Carnatic music. It is the 6th raga in the first chakra Indu with mnemonic name Indu-Sha.
Arohana: S R1 G1 M1 P D3 N3 S
Avarohana: S N3 D3 P M1 G1 R1 S
The notes of this sampoorna raga is shadjam, shuddha rishabham, shuddha gandharam, shuddha madhyamam, panjamam, shatsruthi dhaivatham and kakali nishadham. Thanaroopi is the shuddha madhyamam equivalent of the 42nd Melakarta raga Raghupriya.
The raga Tanukeerti has the same notes but the arohana and avarohana slightly differ making it an audava-vakra sampoorna raga.

Thanaroopi has no janya ragas as such and there are very few compositions in this raga like Va velava va by Koteeswara Iyer and Sri ramam sada bajeham by Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna.
