Ramapriya
Ramapriya or Ramamanohari, as called in Muthuswami Dikshitar school of Carnatic music, is the 52nd raga in the Melakarta system of Carnatic music. Being the fourth raga in the Brahma chakra, it has the mnemonic name Brahma-Bhu.
Arohana: S R1 G3 M2 P D2 N2 S
Avarohana: S N2 D2 P M2 G3 R1 S
The swaras of this raga are shadjam, shuddha rishabham, antara gandharam, prati madhyamam, panjamam, chathusruthi dhaivatham and kaisiki nishadam. The notes Ni and Da of arohana are varjya swaras. This sampoorna raga is the prati madhyamam equivalent of Chakravakam, the 16th Melakarta raga.
This rarely heard raga is very soothing and is suited for recital in the mornings. When heard in concerts, it is difficult to identify Ramapriya by just hearing a few phrases. Listeners often think of it as Vachaspati or Pantuvarali but later recognize the notes to be of Ramapriya.
A few classical compositions in Ramapriya are Mahadevamanisham by Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna, Saamodam Paripaalaya by Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma and Korinavara mosagu by Patnam Subramania Iyer. The two famous Tamil movie songs set to this raga are Thom Thom Thom from the movie Oorellam Un Paattu and Kamalam Paatha from Mogamul.
