Suryakantham
Suryakantham is the fifth raga in the Agni chakra and has mnemonic name Agni-Ma. This sampoorna raga occurs in the 17th position in the Melakarta system of Carnatic music. It is known as Chayavati in Muthuswami Dikshitar school of Carnatic music.
Arohana: S R1 G3 M1 P D2 N3 S
Avarohana: S N3 D2 P M1 G3 R1 S
The notes of this raga are shadjam, shuddha rishabham, antara gandharam, shuddha madhyamam, panjamam, chathusruthi dhaivatham and kakali nishadham. You will get the 53rd Melakarta raga when you replace the shuddha madhyamam with prati madhyamam.
Chayavati occurs as the 17th raga in the list made by Venkatamakhin. The notes in the Avarohana are same as Suryakantham and the only difference is that Arohana does not have panjamam.

Suryakantham has several janya ragas and some of them like Bhairavam, Vasanta and Sowrashtram are often sung by musicians. The famous compositions of this janaka raga are Ranga Manega Baro by Sripadaraja, Takkuvemi manaku by Bhadrachala
