Gayikapriya
Gayikapriya is another raga that is not so commonly heard in concerts. It has a unique name in the Muthuswami Dikshitar school of Carnatic music, namely Geyahejjujji which often amuses the musicians. Gayikapriya is the 13th raga in the Melakarta system of Carnatic music.
Arohana: S R1 G3 M1 P D1 N1 S
Avarohana: S N1 D1 P M1 G3 R1 S
The swaras of this raga are shadjam, shuddha rishabham, antara gandharam, shuddha madhyamam, panjamam, shuddha dhaivatham and shuddha nishadham.
The second chakra Netra ends with Roopavathi raga and Gayikapriya is the first one in the third chakra Agni. The mnemonic name of this raga is Agni-Pa. When you change the shuddha madhyamam of this sampoorna raga to prati madhyamam, you get Dhavalambari which is the 49th Melakarta raga.
Geyahejjujji which is the 13th raga in the list of Venkatamakhin, has similar notes as in the raga in discussion but the arohana sees the use of vakra swaras. It is a shadava-sampurna raga and has all the seven notes in the avarohana and just six of them in the arohana.
