Nasikabhushani
The 70th raga in the Melakarta system of Carnatic music, Nasikabhushani, is the fourth raga in the Adiya chakra. It is called Nasamani in Muthuswami Dikshitar school of music.
Arohana: S R3 G3 M2 P D2 N2 S
Avarohana: S N2 D2 P M2 G3 R3 S
The swaras of Nasikabhushani are shadjam, shatsruthi rishabham, antara gandharam, prati madhyamam, panjamam, chathusruthi dhaivatham and kaisiki nishadam. The sampoorna raga changes to Vagadheeswari, the 34th Melakarta raga when prati madhyamam is replaced with shuddha madhyamam. The mnemonic name is Aditya-Bhu. Nasikabhushani is a vivadi raga that brings a feeling of devotion when recited.
Nasikabhushani has only a few janya ragas. Shifting the notes of this raga using Graha bhedam gives Shadvidamargini raga. Some of the compositions include Thandarul ayya by Koteeswara Iyer, Maravairi ramani by Thyagaraja and Srirama Saraswathi by Muthuswami Dikshitar. There is only one Tamil movie song set to this raga – Thendral ennum from the movie Pasa Kiligal. The Malayalam song in the raga is Oru vela raavinnakam from the movie Swapaanam.
