Gavambhodi is listed as the 43rd raga in the Melakarta system of Carnatic music and is commonly known as Geervani in Muthuswami Dikshitar school of Carnatic music. Meaning ‘the teacher of the cows’, this is one of the rare ragas that is not much used for compositions being a vivadi mela.

Avarohana: S N1 D1 P M2 G2 R1 S
The notes of this raga are shadjam, shuddha rishabham, sadharana gandharam, prati madhyamam, panjamam, shuddha dhaivatham and shuddha nishadam. This sampoorna raga is the prati madhyamam equivalent of Senavati, the 7th Melakarta raga. Shifting the notes of Gavambhodi gives the raga Hatakambari.
